Michael is a Chicano poet from Culver City, with work published in Acentos Review, PS Poetry, KCRW, Zocalo Public Square, and anthologized in Coiled Serpent: Poets Arising from the Cultural Quakes and Shifts of Los Angeles (Tia Chucha Press 2016). He’s received fellowships from VONA/Voices and The Home School.

He works as an arts and culture journalist and in various capacities in the non-profit field inspiring students to be confident readers and writers. Michael is a UCLA alumnus with degrees in English and Chicanx Studies–by way of Santa Monica and El Camino community colleges–and is the former Editor of UCLA’s La Gente Newsmagazine. In the past, he’s mentored and taught writing to pushed-out high school students and researched the impact of in-school creative writing programs.
